When your first is born you are amazed at this little person that you brought into this world and after awhile you realize (often their first birthday) their arrival was also when you turned into parents.  You added the role of mom and dad to who you are.  And it is life changing part of bringing a baby into the world.

When your second is born there is another life changing moment.  

The moment when your first born becomes a big sister/brother.  And in this house there is now a big sister.  

When I arrive at a session I meet the family and peek around the house to find where the light is going to be best.  I am also taking in the moods and personalities of all the little people.  I am deciding, with mom and dad's input, on whether we should start with family shots, sibling shots, baby shots.  Sometimes siblings need time to warm up to me.  Sometimes they are ready to go and don't really care I am there or are happy that I am there.  

The big sister moment was where we started and I will never forget it this pair.  

We placed baby in sister's lap and I bounced from in front to the side to up on the bed and looking down to capture moment after moment of natural big sister love.  It was just breathtaking. Big sis is 2 and so these sisters are such gifts to each other, whether they know it yet or not.  Mom and dad will be busy for a spell, but then these two are going to become the best playmates for a lifetime of adventures. 

After big sis we conquered a few family pictures and then big sis and dad went and had a snack or played.  And we got some of baby and mom.  

Love this classic baby nose and wee lash shot.   While mama feeds baby I hang out with big sis and capture a little of her "now".  These are always a little bit of a surprise for mom since she isn't usually around. I love giving them a little special attention letting them show me their room or talents. 

And for the first time we had gorgeous weather outside so we took the family outside for a few newborn moments.  They just hung out and I clicked away. 

Newborn sessions are 2-3 hours so we have time for breaks to feed baby.  So we can get some of everything.  And walking away I always feel so lucky to have gotten to see a family transition to their new normal.  Their reality is now 2 and they look completely ready  for the adventures ahead.
