Most at home sessions start a little like this...confused at who this lady is with the big black camera all up in her face (or rather their face).  So we start off slow. And I let these little ones take the lead.  And he leads me....

Right on inside so that I can capture who he is and what his family's stage is right now.  A stage full of building blocks, Thomas the train, evening bottles, a favorite sleepytime friends named Ned, big brothers who devour large sandwiches....  Laughs and tickles and play in the backyard.  All the everyday things that someday they will look back on and wish they could go back to this time for a day and remember.  So that is why I am there. To capture it and freeze it.

This time of year the parks turn into beautiful fall backdrops.  The leaves are changing and the temps cool down.  And this is the busiest time of year for families to update their photos so they can throw some on a holiday card, gift some to grandparents, and update the walls.  And I do love park sessions and love to capture natural and candid family moments when we explore a park.  But, what I REALLY think is beautiful is your family in their everyday space.  The space you will look back on and try and remember.  The carpets, wall colors, their bedrooms that evolve and change, and the toys that they play with and then suddenly sit untouched...are there.  In the pictures.  For you to look back on for years to come.  

At home sessions are longer because we move about the house capturing moments in different rooms or we even tell a story of a particular activity like pumpkin carving, cookie baking/decorating, board game playing, or backyard fun.  These types of sessions typically mean you will end up with a ton of photos and that can be overwhelming.  So my first advice....

.... is to throw them in a photo book that can sit on your coffee table.  And you will be amazed that the book doesn't sit all that much.  Your little ones will hold it and stare mesmerized seeing themselves, their favorite place, and their mom and dad in pictures engaged in moments with them.  I know everyone has their cameras and phones out snapping moments all the time.  And that is great!  But how about the opportunity to be in those pictures playing blocks with your son and to have it documented so years from now he knows how awesome his dad was to get down and do that.

Sitting on your front stoop with the most adorable red mailbox.  Whether this is their forever home or they move someday..this mailbox will forever bring them back to this home where they started their family.  

The days where their little ones were content to swing and play in the fenced in backyard when life was so simple.  

The everyday moments.  That is where my love of photography started and I am so excited when I find clients who find me and trust that this is the type of session that they want to embark on.
